After many hours of hard work by the team, four very shiny coaches set off from Letchworth for the short drive to Duxford for this year’s Showbus. There was just enough time for some final preparation before the judging started.

All the hard work paid off, with awards for the Best 2000–2009 vehicle and the Premier Operator Award for the second year running.

UK Coach Awards 2011

Shortlisted for Coach Operator and Coach Driver of the Year

Over 60 individuals, companies and organisations across the UK coach and coach tourism industry were recognised for their excellence and good practice at the Belmont International UK Coach Awards, held on Thursday 7 April 2011 at Manchester’s Piccadilly Hotel.

Cozys was shortlisted for Coach Operator of the Year, and two of our drivers were shortlisted for Coach Driver of the Year.

Coach Operator of the Year: Highly Commended

Customer nominations were sought from group organisers and other industry clients, and nominated operators were invited to submit further information to the judges. The judging also included ‘mystery shopping’ to test each operator’s commitment to customer service.

Cozys was Highly Commended by the judges.

Coach Driver of the Year: runner-up, Nigel Isom

Nigel has over 20 years’ experience of coach driving, the last nine of them with Cozys. His customer service skills and attention to detail are much in demand from customers, and his experience is appreciated by the office staff and other drivers, especially when planning London trips.

The judges were impressed by the letters of commendation, especially one about an incident on the M6 when a brick was dropped from a bridge as Nigel’s coach passed beneath. His calm and considered response avoided damage and injury, and impressed the organiser so much that Nigel was requested for their next trip.

Coach Driver of the Year: Highly Commended, Les Edwards

Les has held a PCV licence for 20 years and joined Cozys two years ago. This is the second year in a row he has reached the final stages of the competition.

He brings experience and a willingness to help, supporting younger drivers, suggesting tours and itineraries, and building a ‘fan club’ of Cozys customers who want to know which tour he’s on next so they can book it.

Customers who contacted the UK Coach Awards agreed: “He has a sense of humour and loves his job,” said one. “It’s a pleasure to travel with him,” said another.

The Coach Driver of the Year award goes to the driver who has best demonstrated excellent performance from the customer’s perspective: friendly, helpful, conscientious and mindful of passengers’ comfort and well-being.
